Maple Quotes

“I have never tasted any better sugar than what has been made from the maple, when it has been properly refined. It has a peculiarly rich, salubrious, and pleasant taste.”
- Samuel Williams, A Natural and Civil History of Vermont 1794
About Us
The heart of Butternut Mountain Farm really is a farm. Located on a hillside 1000 ft above the village of Johnson at the end of three miles of rough dirt road is the 600 acre tree farm that the Marvin family has stewarded for more than half a century. To ensure adequate supply for wholesale customers, the Marvin family has also built long-term relationships with other producers who share a vision of forest stewardship.

The Farm

“This place is the soul and spirit of our business,” says owner and founder of Butternut Mountain Farm, David Marvin. “Even today as the largest volume packager of Vermont Maple Syrup, I can’t imagine having built our business from any other place, but the farm.”

Sugar Maple Trees

We’re often asked whether any maple tree of sufficient girth can be tapped for syrup production. The answer is yes….and no.
