Last night when I was out I heard the wood frogs singing - a harbinger of the end of the season. With temperatures expected to near 70 today and remain unseasonably warm over the weekend we know our boiling days are numbered.
It's been a good season for us. Three straight weeks of near ideal sugaring weather at the beginning of March meant that we boiled nearly everyday and made ~3/4 of the crop by the middle of the month. Over the last week or so, the weather has been less ideal - a little too warm, and then a little too cold. With the latest warm up the sap is still running, but not at the same volume or quality as previous weeks. It's likely in the next day or two we will have the final boil of our season - a true frog run. |
