The 2012 Vermont Maple Conferences will begin this year with a seminar on food safety present by Ellie Valentine, Quality Assurance Administrator for Butternut Mountain Farm and Henry Marckes, Chief, Consumer Protection for the VT Agency of Agriculture.

The presentation will focus on guaranteeing food safety and will highlight practical tips and low-cost upgrades to help ensure the safety of product. Also covered will be information on food allergens, appropriate storage containers for sap and syrup, chemical hazards, and record keeping practices.

 

The Vermont Maple Schools are held to educate maple syrup producers about the latest information and research on forest management, sap collection, syrup production, quality control, and marketing. The meeting are designed to provide education for maple producers of all levels of skill and experience. Sponsored by the University of Vermont Extension, Addison County Maple Sugarmakers Association and Vermont Maple Sugarmakers Association, the program includes classes taught by scientists, natural resource professional and sugarmakers from around the State and region.
